This is a working draft, pending attorney review. It is not yet final.
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address, a password (stored securely by our authentication provider — we never see or store your password in plain text), and a display name you choose.
Learning activity. We store which fallacy library entries you've completed, your scores on rebuttal practice, and your progress toward Cognichamp status.
Content you submit for AI analysis. When you use features like rebuttal grading, fallacy detection on pasted text, or Adversarial Mode practice sessions, the text you submit is sent to our AI provider (Anthropic) to generate feedback. This content is processed to provide the feature you're using and is not used to train AI models.
Subscription status. If you subscribe to Premium, our subscription management provider (RevenueCat) and the app store you purchased through (Apple App Store or Google Play) process your payment. We receive only your subscription status and tier — we never receive or store your payment card details directly.
Usage counts. We track how many times you've used certain rate-limited features (like AI-graded rebuttals) each day, solely to enforce fair usage limits.
Saved preferences. If you save real-world examples from our "Fallacies in the Wild" content or adjust topic preferences, we store those choices to personalize what you see.
We use your information to:
- Provide and operate the App's features
- Track your learning progress and award achievements
- Process subscription payments and verify your access tier
- Enforce fair-use limits on features that have real operating costs
- Personalize the real-world content you see, based on preferences you set
- Respond to support requests
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with the following service providers, solely to operate the App:
Supabase — our database, authentication, and file storage provider. All account data, learning progress, and generated audio files are hosted here.
Anthropic — processes text you submit for AI-graded rebuttals, fallacy detection, and Adversarial Mode practice. Anthropic does not use this content to train its models.
RevenueCat — manages subscription status across app stores.
Apple App Store / Google Play — process actual payment transactions for subscriptions; we never receive your full payment card information.
ElevenLabs — used only to generate narrated audio for our fixed, pre-written fallacy library content. Your personal data and any content you submit is never sent to ElevenLabs.
We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time (see Contact Us below, or use Delete Account in Settings). Upon request, we will delete your account information, learning progress, and saved preferences, except where we are required to retain certain records by law.
Cognitly is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
We use industry-standard security practices, including encrypted connections and database-level access controls that restrict data to its rightful owner. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
